How to Edit WooCommerce My Account Page

The My Account page is very important, even though you might not think so. In this article, we’ll look at what a My Account page is, how it’s used, why it’s important, and how you can customize and optimize it with just a few simple clicks.

We’ll start with a definition!

What is and what is the purpose of WooCommerce’s “My Account” Page?

The My Account page is a page that is automatically generated by your eCommerce and is unique to each customer, which they can access after registering and logging in. WooCommerce, at the time of the setup wizard, will go and create a My Account page itself, but in general this can be created by adding the simple shortcode (without the spaces):

[ woocommerce_my_account ]

So, what is the WooCommerce My Account page? It’s a page that gives you a summary of your customers’ status on your eCommerce site. It shows you all orders, both completed and uncompleted, as well as downloadable files, billing and shipping addresses, and more.

This page is a must-have. Without it, customers won’t be able to track their orders and might get lost while browsing the site.

Aside from being super important, the My Account page can be a real asset to your business. You can:

  • Allow the customer to complete purchases that were left undone due to a problem during checkout.
  • Give the ability to re-order a previously purchased product without the need to search for it again in the catalog.
  • Suggest products and offers that are relevant to the customer in order to increase the number of orders and the average order value (AOV).
  • Offer an easy and immediate way to contact you, so as to keep customer dissatisfaction in check when there are problems.
  • Retrieve previously viewed products (Amazon also takes advantage of this option).
  • Enter and save multiple addresses for any subsequent purchases.
  • Allow easy management of advanced features, if any, such as Gift Cards, Wishlist and loyalty programs.

And much more. That is why it is as important to optimize this page as it is to be careful not to forget it along the way.

Importance of Customizing the “My Account” Page

It’s true: as we mentioned earlier, WooCommerce automatically creates a My Account page, but that shouldn’t make you think that your work is done in this case.

While WooCommerce is a wonderful tool to work with, some of its features, even at their most basic level, can leave you wanting more.

When you’re talking about a page that’s going to be visited multiple times by EVERY customer on your site, it’s important to make sure it works perfectly and has all the features you want. It should also offer a personalized experience compared to the basic version of WooCommerce.

Remember, your store will be judged by its weakest area, so make sure that’s not the My Account page.

In the next few points, we’ll look at how to customize it—not just to introduce the features we listed above, but also in visual form to make it more pleasant to use and improve the user experience.

How to Customize the “My Account” Page of WooCommerce

To make your WooCommerce Account page your own, we’re going to use the WooCommerce Customize My Account Page plugin. You can not only edit the elements already on the page, but you can also create new entries and customize them however you like.

All to switch from the basic version of the My Account page:

To an optimized, custom version:

My Account page managed by the plugin

This plugin is a bit more technical than the others offered by YITH, but don’t let that scare you. It’s actually pretty easy to use. Let’s take it one step at a time and see how we can customize the My Account page.

Using YITH WooCommerce Customize My Account Page

The first step is to install and activate the plugin, which is standard practice for WordPress/WooCommerce. Once you’ve done that, you’ll see YITH > Customize My Account Page in the WordPress dashboard/side menu. Just click on this tab and you’ll be taken to the plugin management page.

Customize my account page plugin

The first page you’ll see is the Endpoints page. This is where you can customize the content of the My Account page. Don’t worry—we’ll go over this section and the others in detail.

Customizing the endpoints

As suggested by the plugin itself, each “endpoint” is one of the sections in the My Account page. This part is where you’ll find the original WooCommerce endpoints (like Dashboard, My Orders, My Downloads, and so on). Since these are also on the original screen, you can’t delete them from My Account, but you can disable or customize them.

To do this, just click the arrow next to the endpoint name. That’ll open up a customization screen for you:

Endpoint customization

As you can see, you can customize the name of the endpoint (i.e., its label) and the logo that will appear next to it. If we take another look at the “Dashboard” item on the My Account page, we can see that it reflects these choices:

You’ll also find a few other items you can customize if you scroll down a bit:

Customize the multiple fields in the section

These include:

  • Show endpoints to – Select the role of the user to whom a particular item is to be displayed, in case you do not want it to be visible to all users.
  • Content – Choose the content of the endpoint.
  • Place content – Decide where to put the specified content, whether to use it to replace the base content, or simply to add it above or below.
  • CSS Class – You can add CSS classes for more advanced editing.

Just click Save to register the new endpoint appearance.

You can also add completely new entries, not just edit endpoints. Let’s see how.

At the top of the page, you’ll find three buttons:

Buttons for adding content

As you can see, the plugin lets you create three different types of elements:

  • Endpoints – We’ve already gone over these. They’re the sections of the My Account page.
  • Link – You can add links to pages on your own site or other sites, along with other elements. You can give your customers a shortcut to the pages they visit most often or that are most important to them (like your return policies, FAQs, support page, and loyalty club page).
  • Groups – Create a set in which to group the various endpoints. For example, you might create a group called “Account Information” and then group the account change, address change, and payment methods endpoints as in the example below.

You’ll see a page like the editing page we looked at earlier for each type of addition.

Let’s take the image we saw earlier:

Custom page

We’ve seen how to add all the content shown on the left. On the right, you’ll find some helpful images that give you quick access to the main parts of your account. So, how do you create them?

All you have to do is head over to the Banners section of the plugin:

Banner

This is where you can edit and add the different banners to the page. To edit one, just click the arrow next to its name. If you want to add one, click “+ Add banner”:

Banner customization

The first thing you’ll want to do is give your form a name and customize its appearance. If you scroll down a bit more, you’ll see some more options:

Once more, you can choose whether to show it only to certain user roles and what type of link (if you want to insert one) to use. You can also choose whether to use an Account page endpoint or a link to a page outside this area of the site.

Finally, remember that you can customize the visual appearance of the page by going to Settings > Style:

What integrations can I use in “My Account”?

All YITH plugins work great together, but sometimes their integration leads to some cool new features. YITH WooCommerce Customize My Account Page is no exception. It works great with a number of other plugins:

  • YITH WooCommerce Wishlist – This plugin lets you add wish list functionality to your store. It also integrates with My Account, so you can edit the list info right in the plugin admin panel.
  • YITH WooCommerce Points and Rewards – This plugin lets you set up a points system on your site. It’ll automatically add a dedicated points endpoint in your account.
  • YITH WooCommerce Gift Cards – The plugin lets you manage and display gift cards in a dedicated endpoint in your account.
  • YITH WooCommerce Membership and YITH WooCommerce Subscription – The first plugin lets you create custom content for your site based on customer-purchasable plans. The second lets you offer recurring payments on your site (with the option of developing lots of different business models). In both cases, you can automatically display memberships and subscriptions in the account by integrating with YITH WooCommerce Customize My Account Page.

And there are plenty of others. The plugin works great with fifteen other YITH plugins and some of the most popular third-party plugins out there.

You’ll find the full list of integrations on the plugin page, in the “Plugin Integrations” section.

Conclusion

While it’s easy to overlook the customer account page when you’re managing an entire eCommerce site, we recommend giving it the attention it deserves. Using a dedicated tool can help you get the best possible result with the least investment of both money and time.

As we said before, the My Account page is one of the most used sections of your site by your customers. So, make sure it’s easy to use and doesn’t look unprofessional. Details matter!
